Custom Welded Handrails Built for a Longville Lakeside Staircase

Lake properties are beautiful, but that walk down to the water can get tricky - especially on a long, sloped staircase with uneven stone steps. That was exactly the situation here in Longville. The customer needed something sturdy and safe, but it also had to look good alongside the natural stone and landscaping.

We fabricated and installed a custom steel handrail system that runs the full length of the staircase - from the top near the cabin all the way down to the lake. The black powder-coated finish holds up well outdoors and doesn't fight for attention against the surroundings. It just fits.

What makes a job like this more involved than it looks is the terrain. Natural stone steps aren't perfectly uniform, and the slope changes as you move down. Every post has to be set at the right angle and height so the rail feels solid in your hand no matter where you're grabbing it. That's not something you can just buy off a shelf.

The handrail on the lower section near the water follows a split-path layout, keeping both sides of the flagstone landing accessible. No awkward gaps, no loose sections. Just clean, consistent support from top to bottom.

A lot of people put off something like this because it feels like a small job - but it's the kind of thing that matters every single time someone walks those stairs, especially with kids or older family members around. Getting it done right means not thinking about it again.
