Most stair railings are an afterthought. You pick something off a shelf, it kind of fits, and that's that. This client wanted something different - a railing that actually belonged in the space, not just something dropped in to meet code.
That's where our in-shop fabrication process makes a real difference. We built this entire railing system from scratch, sizing every section to fit the exact layout of the staircase and landing. The result is clean, consistent, and solid - no gaps, no awkward transitions, no hardware that looks like it came from a big box store.
The design itself is straightforward and intentional. Square steel posts, evenly spaced vertical balusters, and a flat top rail that runs clean through the angles of the staircase. Nothing fussy. It works with the home's interior without competing with it. That's harder to pull off than it looks - getting the angles right on a stair rail, especially where it meets a flat landing section, takes real precision in the shop before anything ever gets installed.
Beyond the look, this is structural work. These posts are anchored properly at the base, and the whole system is built to hold. Safety and style aren't mutually exclusive - you just have to build it right from the start.
We do this kind of work regularly here in Bemidji and the surrounding area. If you've got a staircase that needs a railing - or an existing one that just isn't cutting it - we're happy to talk through what a custom metal option would look like for your space.
